Stories & Insights

Merit Award, Things Unseen Biennial National Juried Exhibition

Gainesville Fine Arts Association (GFAA) Gallery, FL, USA

August 23 - October 22, 2022

The Gainesville Fine Arts Association (GFAA) invites submissions that broadly explore the theme Things Unseen. We invite artists to contemplate the things in between the lines and the questions behind the questions.

Who are the people or what are the ideas behind movements, trends, and culture that have been lost from view? We as individuals walk around with hidden illnesses, disabilities, stories and feelings that we keep private. On the surface of our skin are microscopic organisms and structures that are too small to see. There are people of color and women who are left out of history books and research papers. Who are the wives behind the men whose names are known by us all? There are things unknown to our eyes in the vastness of space and in the deepest of oceans, and countless species yet to be discovered. We would like to invite artists to question, investigate, and to dive deeper; to make the implicit explicit; and bring to light Things Unseen.

Special Mention Award, 2022 FUTURE ART AWARDS: ECOSYSTEM X

MOZAIK Philanthropy, CA, USA

Feburary, 2022

To rethink existing paradigms and co-create positive futures through the visionary power of art, national foundation MOZAIK Philanthropy has launched its latest virtual group exhibition titled Ecosystem X, showcasing the artworks of 40 U.S. based artists from a diverse array of backgrounds, mediums, and creative expressions. Using the cross-cultural symbol of the circle to engender a sense of non-hierarchy while viewing the art, the exhibition's novel circular structure centers audiences as active participants in the creative process.

On a mission to democratize philanthropy in the arts, MOZAIK Philanthropy first conceived of the Future Art Awards at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to issue financial relief to artists through a new philanthropic model called flow funding, which encourages the dynamic flow of financial and social capital spontaneously through the hands of new funders in an effort to democratize philanthropy. MOZAIK has been issuing emergency grants directly to artists in the same way that they might receive a federal stimulus check in the mail. The Future Art Awards has now grown into a professional lifeline for hundreds of emerging and established artists using contemporary art as a medium for social change.

A Tale of Two Cities Group Exhibition

Enjoy · Art Museum, Beijing, China

October 9 - 21, 2021

Enjoy · Art Museum presents art group exhibition A Tale of Two Cities. This group show is curated by artist Jiannan Wu, and is currently on view at Enjoy· Art Museum (Hall C) Beijing, China. The title of the exhibition comes from the historical novel “A Tale of Two Cities” by British writer Charles Dickens. Differ from London and Paris in the novel, the “two cities” refer to the two places where the artist used to live and study, and also the completely different cultural spirits and artistic appearance of the East and the West. All the artists participating in this exhibition were born and grew up in China. They have studied in the United States, the United Kingdom, or are currently working and living abroad. Their art practice is influenced by European and American modernism and postmodernism. Each artist’s work is presented in pairs around the theme of “Twin Cities”. Through intuitive visual expression, the integration of complex cultural backgrounds and artistic practice is the expectation for the artists in this exhibition.

Don’t Try This At Home Group Exhibition

ANTILIA – itinerant gallery, Italy

April 18, 2020

‘Don’t Try This At Home’ is a widespread group show spurred from the global impact of Covid-19. It brings together contributions from an international group of artists that explored the idea of artistic domesticity within their quarantine space.

Antilia invited the contributors to challenge their innermost living situation in order to transform it into a space for artistic interaction. The same space will also investigate, discover and re-define the domestic field as an exhibition venue. Our preconception of privacy in the past will have a spatial and aesthetic transformation in order to embrace visitors’ intrusions as welcomed visits.

Rather than focusing on the what has become daily monotony, we would like to treat our condition of forced quarantine as a possible field of experimentation of the interior landscape, ordinary life and expectations, mental breakdown, threshold of inside/outside, lack of physical contact and informatization of sociality.

Each artist aims at an original way to exhibit his/her art from home, literally a homemade exhibition set. Visitors will peek at their diorama by discovering the thin threshold between artistic research and personal life.
