BLACK WATER
2018 - 2024
ATLANTA, GA (USA) | NEW YORK, NY (USA) | Shanghai (China)
Black Water is more like a self-portrait of all the emotions that I am going through.
No color palette, no severe brush marks, no specific textures or patterns, nothing. Left alone in a foreign country, knowing there is no one from my past that I can turn to, standing in the middle of the unknown.
Water can flow, or it can crash.* I keep seeking a way out, trying to figure out the essence of reality and fiction in the dark water.
Dive into the unknown. To run. To roar.
This is my perception of life, in a way of emotional impacts and shocks. I feel it is okay to stay in solitude. It is okay to be vulnerable. The black water will wash away all the differences between age, gender, class, race, and just keep going. A moment of moving forward. A moment of purity.
As I look deeper into myself, I see the black water.
* Quote from Bruce Lee, “Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless – like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup, you put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle, you put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.”
